Questions about our place and purpose in life often arise alongside the physical symptoms of menopause, such as hot flashes, night sweats, sleep disturbances, fatigue, mood swings, and sexual dysfunction. They can signal that it's time to make changes to live a healthier life.
This period in a woman's life can be a catalyst for development, encouraging her to rediscover who she is, who she wants to be, and what she wants to do with her life.
Menopause offers you the opportunity to start living the life you truly want, as long as you give yourself the attention you deserve.
For many women, life leading up to menopause is very busy. It often involves having children, raising a family, pursuing a career, caring for aging parents, supporting their community and/or organizations, and fulfilling daily responsibilities. Each of these responsibilities alone is enough to make most women yearn for calm and relaxation.
Menopause is a time when you can pause and reflect on your current situation, the people you love, and what you truly want. It's a time to rediscover your personality and make changes to live in harmony with yourself.
What might this rediscovery look like?
Every woman experiences these changes differently, but starting with self-awareness can be key.
These essential questions can provide you with personal answers:
- Who am I now?
- What kind of person do I want to be?
- What matters to me?
- Who are the people I love and want to spend more time with?
- What do I like to do and what would I like to do more of?
- How do I contribute?
- What brings me joy?
- Is my body sending me signals about areas that need special attention?
- What should I change?
- How can I take better care of myself?
The answer to most of these questions is to take care of yourself during menopause. This self-care includes various measures such as:
- adopt a healthier diet;
- spend more time with family;
- reduce its non-essential obligations;
- seek help for past trauma and/or stress;
- create a relaxing sleep routine;
- practice a new sport;
- read, write or express oneself through art;
- learn a language;
- to travel; and
- garden.
This transition to a new stage of your life may also come with difficult decisions, such as career changes and/or retirement, changes in relationships, and moving.
And you know what? It's not a problem .
Making decisions for your well-being and happiness isn't always easy, but it can be the key to successful personal growth, research, and transition into the person you want to be.
Menopause is a stage of life during which women can thrive as their true selves. Beyond purely physical changes, it invites mental and spiritual growth. Self-discovery, self-awareness, and self-care are essential to achieve this.
